“The programme is all about giving young people a voice”, says Shaninga, “young people have so much to contribute to society but often lack the platform and self confidence to present their ideas effectively. This is where we can help them”.
BIGKID Foundation’s Shaninga Marasha and SYCT’s Mark Wood met at a short tennis activation course run by London Youth. While SYCT has a long standing membership, BKF has only just joined London Youth and are making full use of their training courses in tag rugby, cage cricket, football, and short tennis.
“I liked Shaninga’s belief in getting kids politically educated for their own sake and also for the local community. I was also impressed with BKF starting from scratch just a few years ago and going on to win awards from Improving People’s Lives and the Anne Frank Awards”.
SYCT largely works in the St Leonards, Streatham Wells and Streatham South wards of London Borough of Lambeth. It provides evening youth club at the John Corfield Centre, play provision at Streatham Vale Adventure Playground and more targeted work at the Wellfield Centre.
